Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club,
This Was How I Discovered
‘The Lake’ at Boreen Point.

It all started at the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club, ‘the club’. My Uncle was the Commodore when we first visited the lake many years ago and have been hooked ever since.

Mum and Dad have an old caravan in the Camping Ground and we spend lots of wonderful family time up there. You will often see Mum and Dad around the club, Dad sails most weekends.

Boreen Point Camping Ground - ‘the camping ground’

Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club

I can't tell you how many times I have photographed this tree. I love it. Here is the foreshore of the camping ground, you can't beat it!

  • Located on the banks of the lake with some beautiful white sand
  • If you are camping with kids this place has it all
  • A large park with loads of room, suitable for camper trailers and caravans also
  • Limited powered sites available
  • Great facilities however no Laundromat. If you require laundry facilities the closest ones are in Noosa or Tewantin
  • Undercover gas BBQs and picnic tables available
  • Plenty of room to leave your boats, kayaks and canoes on the foreshore during your stay
  • Behind the campground are Boreen Point sports facilities including a sports field with cricket pitch, BMX track, tennis court, and skateboard park and basketball practice area. We taught our kids to ride their bikes without trainer wheels on this cricket pitch!
  • An easy 5-10 minute stroll to the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club
  • Further information about the Boreen Point Camping Ground

Lake Cootharaba is the gateway to the Everglades

Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club

See why they call it the River of Mirrors!

Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club

  • A trip up the Everglades is well worth the effort. Do it yourself by hiring a vessel and head up from the lake by kayak, canoe, sailboat or motor boat (you can hire boats at the Lake and canoes from Elanda Point Camping Area) or alternatively go up on one of the tourist boats
  • Stop at the Kiniba Information Centre to view wetland displays on the way
  • Then prepare for some wonderful photo opportunities as you pass through the ‘river of mirrors’ as you the reflection of the trees in the tannin stained water. Enjoy the birdlife and tranquility as you pass through the everglades. I have been to the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa and this experience compares very favourably
  • I do a lot of camping and still one of my favourite camping grounds is Fig Tree which you will discover on the way. Fire pits and a pit toilet available. We once saw a Sugar Glider in this campground and every time I have visited I have seen some rather large Goannas!
  • The next stop is Harrys Hut, another special camping ground that can also be reached by 4 x 4. The hut itself was first built in 1957 as a base for the wood cutters then the fishing retreat of local pharmacist Harry Spring who had a lifetime lease on the protected property

Boreen Point Accommodation

What I love about Lake Cootharaba:
  • Sitting on the foreshore at the camping ground watching the kids play in the water for hours feeling confident because it is only knee deep – their knees not yours!
  • Enjoying some of the best kayaking on the Sunshine Coast
  • Having an ice cream from Ray’s shop (the one next to Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club) while watching the boats sailing on the Lake
  • Sitting on the balcony at the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club having a gin and tonic enjoying the relaxed holiday feel
  • Walking up to the Apollonian Hotel and enjoying a pub meal while sitting on the verandah while the kids are running around on the grass playing hide and seek!
  • Sailing on the lake up the Everglades and camping at Fig Tree, the boat anchored nearby
  • Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club

  • A trip from the lake into Noosa to go to the movies, have lunch, visit the National park, the list of things to do is endless!

I could go on forever with all the things that I love about the lake, it is not just the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club. So whether you just want to lie on the beach and relax; swim; sail; kayak; canoe; fish or windsurf, Lake Cootharaba should not be missed.

Thanks to Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club for making me
discover this little bit of unspoilt paradise.

Discover some of my other favourite places including Noosa.
