Discover the Great Sandy National Park,
Home to Fraser Island

Great Sandy National Park

My love affair with the Great Sandy National Park, Fraser Island, began when I first went to ‘Fraser’ as a backpacker in the late 80s. Since then I have returned many times. We even went to Kingfisher Bay Resort for our Honeymoon!

It is something special, a largely untouched paradise. No wonder Fraser Island, Great Sandy National Park was World Heritage Listed in 1992 to preserve its natural beauty.

If you enjoy relaxing on the beach, beach fishing, swimming, camping and 4x4 Driving, no trip to the Sunshine Coast Australia is complete without visiting Fraser Island (Great Sandy National Park).

What to Expect:

Great Sandy National Park

  • Magnificent long white beaches, crystal clear water in the freshwater lakes, towering rainforests in the middle of no-where!
  • The world’s largest sand island
  • 123 km in length and 22 km at the widest point
  • The highest sand dune is 244 metres but most are 100 – 200 metres above sea level
  • With at least 40 Freshwater Lakes, Fraser Island is home to half of the world’s perched lakes. A perched lake has a bottom made of impermeable sand by slowly rotting reed humus. Lake Boomanjin, is the largest perched lake in the world
